Journal d’un fou

In Madman's Journal, film-maker Mark Blandford talks publicly about his bout with serious depression several years ago. As he details the disease that almost destroyed him, he explores all aspects of mental illness – from the insider's perspective of enduring a personal catastrophe to the social phenomenon of depression as seen through the eyes of the outside world. Blandford reveals the distress and desperation he endured, the stigma attached to his condition and the shame it brings to those who suffer from it. He also discusses the role his family and close friends played – their reaction and the importance of their support. And finally he speaks of his treatment and recovery, and of the spiritual renaissance he now enjoys having come through this ordeal.
